Volunteering

Last reviewed:

Volunteering is a valuable way for our employees to share their skills, expertise and energy with worthwhile initiatives.

We encourage our employees to volunteer for charities that operate in the areas they may work or live. Through our Time to Give programme we give all employees two volunteer days per year, in addition to their annual leave, so they can do just that.

Some of the recent volunteering opportunities our employees have been involved in are listed below.

Reading RESCUE

We were once again proud sponsors of the Reading RESCUE event, an environmental clean-up initiative organised by Reading Borough Council. Over 70 employees contributed to an afternoon of litter picking and general waste tidy-ups at five communal sites across the Reading area. A great chance to make a real difference to the environment by removing rubbish and creating habitats for wildlife.

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Swindon

A group of our employees spent a day with the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust (WWT) and took part in several activities on a site near our sewage treatment works on Swindon. The volunteers helped to build a storage container, chopped down wood to clear areas of the site and to help provide habitats for wildlife, including newts.

The day helped our volunteers with an understanding of the various activities being managed by the WWT in Swindon and enabled them to make a tangible difference to that particular site.

Thames 21 River Thames Clean-Up events

Thames 21 is an environmental charity, working with businesses and communities to clean up and revive London’s waterways. Our employees have worked with the charity in a number of events over the past year, including Thames foreshore clean-ups in West and East London.

Dingley Community School painting

A team of 20 Thames Water employees based at our head office in Reading, spent a day painting and decorating at the Dingley Family and Specialist Early Years Centre in Reading. The place looked fabulous once they were done and it was a great opportunity to give something back to the local area and enabled the team to work together for an impressive and tangible end result.
