Thames Water has taken its first steps to running a greener, more environmentally friendly fleet, with its first electric van being used by the innovation team in Reading.
Electric cars have been around for a few years, but the electric van market is now only catching up. Thames Water wanted to be at the forefront of this next step in vehicle technology so is taking part in a six-month trial of electric vans in partnership with the Energy Savings Trust.
Thames Water spokesman Stuart White said: “This is only the beginning and hopefully more of our teams across London and the Thames Valley will soon be reaching for charging cables, rather than petrol pumps to keep their vehicles moving.
“We’re determined to be a sustainable company, planning for the future, and delivering efficiently, and this initiative contributes towards that goal."
