He’s behind you!
The Thames Water Amateur Theatrical Society is making its final preparations before hitting the stage for this year’s showpiece pantomime.
Taking place on February 2 and 3 at the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon, 25 employees plus a further 10 behind-the-scenes will perform The Littlest Mermaid.
It’s quite a stark change to their usual day jobs, with the majority of the cast based at Walnut Court working in the retail arm of Thames Water.
Paul Aust, who has been involved in the past 21 shows, said: “We cannot wait to get started and get on the stage to show off what we’ve been practicing for.
“It’s a great thing to be involved in as it’s really good fun to do with your colleagues, and we’re raising some much-needed funds for charities as well.”
The family-friendly event is now in its 23rd year, and has raised more than £215,000 for local charities.
The team has been hard at work with the rehearsals and creating the sets since September, and are itching to get out on stage.
Paul added: “We meet every Sunday up to the show, so each person has put a lot of their own time and effort into putting on the best show we can.
“We always try to do something different. I write the shows, which gives us the flexibility to be fully inclusive of anyone who wants to get involved, and enables us to put in any talents they may have.
“It’s amazing how the energy levels rise once you get an audience in front of you, so I think we’re all most looking forward to getting in front of everyone and showing them what we can do.”
As a twist this year, the retail contact centre department will go head-to-head against the cash and billing team in a sing-off live on stage, with the winner voted by the audience.
Tickets are on general sale at £13 each but are £10 through a member of the panto team. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org
